Finding the grove

Today was an easy day before tomrows big race. I did a 20km easy mountian bike ride, today was the first day I really got into a grove and rode fast and smart. This year I am racing as a jr expert so it going to be a big step for me from last year. It's longer and faster. I know that in this race I will be fighting to hang on. The pace will be fast so my game plan is to relax at the start and hang with the lead guys for as long as I can. I also did a light and easy 5km run. Thing that I have coming up are a 3000m track race and a 5000m running race. For the 3k I want to hit 9:15-9:20 for the 5k I want to hit 16:00-16:15

Getting over the sickness

I have taken 4 days off training due to this cold. I was doing great up until the cold but that's life. I still don't feel 100% but I am getting back to it. Today I just did a 15km mountain bike ride nothing to crazy but I am racing on Sunday and I wanted to do some riding. I think the 4 days of rest will really help me on Sunday.

I will start my training on Monday again I should be back to 100% then. I am really looking forward to starting my speed training. I am sick of base!

First Race First win


So today I had my cycle cross race. I woke up in the morning with that feeling of a cold on its way so I was kinda worried. The race started out slow and easy but after 5km Kevin Tearle and I pulled away and worked great together and made a massive gap on the rest of the guys. In the last 8km I pulled away from Kevin and rode to the win. I was not going to walk away with anything less then first. 2007 I wiped out in the last 4km and got 3rd over all and last year I got lost and ended up in a tie for 3rd so this year I made up by getting the win. So I now hope I don't end up getting a cold I am hitting the oj and cold fx hard! here are some pictures and videos of the race

Brick work out

So a real quick update. Today I did a shorter bike ride 25km a av38.9 then bricked off into a 5km run that I ran In 17:08 so some great early fitness. I am all ready for the cycle cross race, I did 3 mountain/rail trail bike rides. 1:30 or more was the kinda time I was on the bike for. I feel good on bike and fast so I am ready to make some other people hurt!

Duathlon

Yesterday was a very fun time, I went to Collingwood to do some skiing and just have a relax day. The snow was outstanding not even one dirt spot! We also went road cycling in the same day. It was kinda odd you know one min your skiing the next you are cycling around. As for what I have planned I only have 2 weeks left of base trianing. I also have an 1500m run on Friday. I have no idea what I am going to run there, I have been doing a whole winter of base so I am guessing it's not going to be the fastest one I have ever done.

race 1...done

Today I did the good Friday road race it was a great day for a race! I used it for a good tempo training ride although i did have some problems in the last lap with my bike but It was a matter of me being stupid so its not the bikes (droped the chain). I was kinda mad that I lost the pack but what can you do. It was a long race that's for sure but I need to do a few more long rides before my mountain bike race. I moved up the Expert Men under 19 so its a longer race by a whole lap but I am looking forward to some good competition. I also Have a 35km cycle cross race. Last year I got lost and lost the big gap I put on everyone. This year I am going to be as bold to say I am going to be 1st.

As for swimming I feel great in the pool! I did a set of 3x800m taking 20 seconds rest. On the first 2 I felt slow but the last one I really started to feel the stroke and swam a 10:25 at about 70% so I am happy with that.

Snow is Back?

Things have been going really good for me as of late. I have had great workouts. The brick I did last Thursday was awesome I felt so strong threw out, my base training is really showing. I have upped the swimming from 6 swims to 7-8 swims. So I have the first race of the year comming on this Friday I am really looking forward it is a 76km road bike race. I cant wait to test my legs agianst the top cyclist (19 and under). I also have some mountian bike races comming up so look for some race results. I now have to go out and have some fun in the snow just a 30min easy run.

Run work out

Today was the first run workout of 2009 doing a 20min warm up then 8x600m taking 2min rest and running them at a 3000m pace. It went alot better then i thought it would and I stayed strong threw out the whole workout. The base training is paying off big time. I will be doing a 1500m track race in 2 weeks so it will be a nice test of fitness. I have also been able to get out on my bike sine Arizona. I did a good 2 hour ride on Saturday, the weather was outstanding 16 and sunny! Thursday I will be doing a long Aerobic brick.
